``We get bored sometimes in Rome on the second month of stay, but never the sixth, but if you remain until the twelfth, you get seized by the idea of settling there``, Stendhal
Enjoy a pleasant stroll through downtown Rome’s most famous attractions.
We start from the famous Piazza Venezia and its imposing Vittoriano, known also as the wedding cake or the typewriter, and from here we climb the Capitoline Hill where you will see the square designed by Michelangelo and enjoy a beautiful view on the Roman Forum.
Then we will proceed onto Via del Corso: today this is mainly a commercial street lined up by some 18th palaces along with shops, but it was originally the urban stretch of an ancient roman road – the Via Flaminia – opened during the 3rd century B.C. Until the late 19th century, it was also used as one of the venues for the celebration of the Roman Carnival.
We will then walk to the Trevi Fountain, the most popular of Rome’s fountains, where you will hear the legends and stories behind its construction.
The tour includes also a visit to some churches such as the Church of Saint Ignatius that is famous for its illusionistic dome and ceiling painted at the end of the 1600’s. On the way we will stop at Piazza di Pietra where you will be able to view the remains of the temple built for the emperor Hadrian that has been incorporated in the modern Chamber of Commerce.
We continue visiting the inside of Pantheon, the best-preserved of all Roman temples dedicated to “all gods”, with its amazing concrete dome, still standing after almost 2,000 years.
In addition, I will show you some lesser-known but fabulous street food vendors that you may have otherwise missed for some tasty treats!
We then continue our walk through the cobbled streets toward the Piazza Navona, a former stadium in ancient Rome, followed by a visit to the Piazza Campo dei Fiori to complete the excursion.
