Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill – Extended Tour

This tour is the perfect tour to fully immerse yourselves in ancient Rome and make the most out of your visit to the archaeological area of the Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill. You will gain a deeper understanding of the most famous of the Roman hills, besides visiting the Colosseum and the Roman Forum.

The Palatine Hill is the centermost of the 7 hills of Rome and overlooks the Roman Forum on the north side and the Circus Maximus on the south side. According to ancient legend, it’s here that the history of Rome begins in 753 BC when the she-wolf found in a cave the twins, Romulus and Remus, and it’s here that one day Romulus will found the first Rome.

This is the reason why the Palatine will become home to the emperors of the mighty Rome. Other than exploring the ruins of the imperial palaces, during this tour, we will also visit the Palatine Museum. This special museum sits right among the ruins of the palace and showcases the many archeological discoveries found during the excavations of Palatine Hill.

You will be able to admire incredible marble statues, paintings and terracotta artifacts found in the house of emperor Augustus.  He also lived on the Palatine but in a “modest house”, before the transformation of the hill into an enormous complex of palaces. Among the objects on display is a splendid pair of marble wings found during excavations in 2011. Outstanding is some of the inlaid colored marble from the palace of emperor Nero.

The Palatine Museum can be visited by buying the FULL EXPERIENCE TICKET, which also grants access to other archaeological sites hidden away among the Palatine and Forum ruins.

Besides the Palatine Hill and the Palatine Museum, we will of course visit the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, the ancient religious, political and civic centre of Rome. Here you’ll roam among the temples, the Senate house, the temple of the Vesta and temple of the Divine Caesar.
